Training

theIDLgroup provides tailor made training programmes which are designed to effectively deliver the skills and knowledge participants need to get up to speed, and remain on top of, current development issues.

Key training services we provide include:

  • bespoke training courses focused on enabling participants to deliver on their own professional agenda
  • courses which utilise innovative training methods, research and current theory on adult learning across a range of cultural and organizational scenarios.

Examples of our training experience include:

  • design and facilitation of a series of lesson-learning events on ‘doing development’ in fragile states. Topics included state building, aid instruments, developing ‘next generation’ policy and establishing best practice
  • for CARE, theIDLgroup planned and facilitated two workshops bringing together international participants to develop lessons and best practice on the use of local ‘challenge funds’ in development, and their place in the new architecture of aid
  • design and delivery of a training course as part of the University of Geneva’s International Organisations MBA Programme. Topics include project and programme design, logical frameworks, participatory monitoring and evaluation, organisational change and change management, and new aid instruments
  • facilitation of a long-term process for the reform of governance of the agriculture sector in Uganda, including programme design, implementation, training and facilitation and monitoring and evaluation
  • design and facilitation of a range of retreats and workshops for DFID Advisors where staff are equipped for more effective service delivery, particularly in fragile situations. For example, theIDLgroup facilitated the annual DFID conflict advisors retreat (2007) and the DFID Afghanistan retreat (2006) where emphasis was given to team working, cross-cultural understanding and improving programme impact.
