Facilitation

theIDLgroup has a proven reputation for supporting its clients and partners to work through complex development challenges.  We often provide short-term and long-term inputs to guide our clients through difficult processes and ensure that progress remains on track.Facilitation of group work in Aceh, Indonesia. Key services we provide include:

  • facilitation of long and short term institutional reform and change management processes
  • design, development and delivery of workshops, conferences and retreats for senior advisors in donor agencies
  • facilitating workshops and working group meetings for key stakeholders.

Examples of our experience in facilitation include:

  • design and facilitation of a range of retreats and workshops for DFID, including the annual DFID Conflict Advisors retreat (2007) and the DFID Afghanistan retreat (2006). Emphasis was given to team working, cross-cultural understanding and improving programme impact with staff equipped to provide more effective service delivery, particularly in fragile situations
  • facilitation of a long-term process for the reform of governance of the agriculture sector in Uganda, including programme design, implementation, training and facilitation and monitoring and evaluation
  • design and facilitation of a series of lesson-learning events on ‘doing development’ in fragile states. Topics included state building, aid instruments, developing ‘next generation’ policy and establishing best practice
  • facilitation of the joint Government of Ethiopia/multi-donor implementation support mission to the Productive Safety Net Programme in Ethiopia
  • for CARE, theIDLgroup planned and facilitated two workshops bringing together international participants to develop lessons and best practice on the use of local ‘challenge funds’ in development, and their place in the new architecture of aid
  • facilitation of a long term process of strategic planning and organisational reform for the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), taking account of wider government policy, the uncertain security situation and implications for reform.
