Rachel Percy

Rachel is an international rural livelihoods specialist who has developed practical strategies to support viable, pro-poor livelihoods in subsistence, small holder and commercial farming environments.  She has over 20 years of experience across 15 countries in Africa and Asia.  Most recently she has advised on livelihood rehabilitation and recovery following emergencies, including post-earthquake livelihood rehabilitation strategy development with the Governments of Pakistan and Indonesia, disaster relief in Ethiopia and needs assessment concerning agricultural livelihoods and food security in post-conflict Georgia.

Prior to joining theIDLgroup, Rachel consulted for the UN, DFID, EC and FAO on sustainable livelihoods, gender mainstreaming, and participatory approaches to agricultural research and knowledge systems.  She has lead and participated in several evaluation missions.   Rachel has been a resident long-term adviser on agricultural development, natural resource conservation and agricultural education and extension programmes in Ethiopia, Malawi, Nigeria and Sudan, and was a Lecturer and Course Director at the International Rural Development Department of the University of Reading.
