Germain Djontu

Research Consultant

Germain is a Research Consultant, working mainly within our Environment and Natural Resources portfolio. He holds a PhD in Forest and Environmental Governance from the University of Freiburg in Germany and has strong analytical and research skills. His interests include international forest agreements and mechanisms (VPA/FLEGT and REDD+), voluntary market schemes (FSC certification) and forest mapping (GIS).

Germain has practical field experience in working with communities, and has undertaken consultancy assignments for government agencies and organisations such as Global Witness, WWF and IUCN. Most recently, he has been involved in the review of the Global Forest Trade Network (GFTN), and the elaboration of management and business plans of National Parks (Boumba Bek and Nki) on behalf of the Cameroon Ministry of Forest and Wildlife.

  • International forest and environmental governance and institutional analysis
  • Consultation processes including Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) standards and incorporating interests of forest communities into policy and programmes
  • Excellent skills in design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development projects and programmes.
  • Land use planning and zoning, participatory mapping with forest communities
  • Organisation and facilitation of workshops, press conferences and symposiums.
